The Hospital Arms is a traditional ale house on the outskirts of Colchester, serving good food, freshly cooked on the premises. Its name derives from its location opposite what used to be the town’s main hospital.
In years gone by, it was known as Ward 9, with hospital staff racing across for a swifty between shifts.
There’s an extensive selection of real ales and good food. Loud music is banned – the only sound being the buzz of good conversation and banter between customers, perhaps proving the theory that the pub is the only place where it’s socially acceptable to strike up a conversation with a complete stranger.
Whether you’re looking for a pint of Adnams, a great glass of chilled white wine or a cup of coffee and a cream tea, hosts Ros and Lindsey will make you very welcome.
