Welcome to the Hospital Arms, Colchester

The Hospital Arms is a traditional ale house on the outskirts of Colchester offering a warm and friendly welcome. Its name derives from its location opposite what used to be the town’s main hospital. In years gone by, it was known as Ward 9, with hospital staff racing across for a ‘swifty’ between shifts.

There’s an extensive selection of real ales, craft spirits and delicious wines. Loud music is banned – the only sound being the buzz of good conversation and banter between customers, perhaps proving the theory that the pub is the only place where it’s socially acceptable to strike up a conversation with a complete stranger. Early in 2019 the kitchen will be offering, simple, hearty home cooked food at lunchtime.
Whether you’re looking for a pint of Adnams, a great glass of chilled white wine or a cup of coffee Wendy and her team will make you very welcome.
